The Turkey Addiction Combat (TAC) Education Program defines addiction as the loss of control over an object used or an action performed by an individual; symptoms of withdrawal such as restlessness, insomnia, and anger are observed when the frequency of use/behavior is reduced or ceased.
According to the DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria Reference Manual, the diagnostic criteria for addiction are listed as follows: 1) Use for longer periods than intended, 2) Spending a great deal of time obtaining and using the substance, 3) Continuing use despite knowledge of adverse effects and harm, 4) Craving substance use, 5) Tolerance (the need to increase the amount of the substance used because the usual amount is no longer sufficient), 6) Withdrawal.
